A-list clients and cable shows are big commitments, but interior designers spend most of their time hunting for Art Deco tables and peculiar lamps so you don't have to. Here's where they get their best stuff. Monica Khemsurov

LOS ANGELES: BLACKMAN CRUZ

This edgy shop specializes in oddities like meteorites. Pieces from its line of sculptural furniture have shown up in Hollywood homes and in movies such as Ocean's Thirteen and Iron Man.

Designer: Tsao & Mckown's Calvin Tsao, who designed the Tribeca Grand Hotel
Recent purchase: A bronze-studded lamp, for the home of New York fashion designer Josie Natori
Insider tip: "If you tell them you want a lamp," Tsao says, "they'll send you photos of items that aren't online or on the floor."
836 North Highland Avenue, 323-657-9228

PALM SPRINGS: 111 ANTIQUE MALL

With 32 vendors, 111 is as chaotic as a flea market—but that doesn't stop megadesigners like Kelly Wearstler from visiting. The prices are friendly. The policies, too: Vendors can't advertise the furniture designer or manufacturer unless the name is stamped on the piece.

Designer: Roman Alonso of Commune, who's worked on Oliver Peoples in Malibu and Barneys Co-Op in L.A.
Recent purchase: Vintage campaign chairs for the new Ace Hotel in Palm Springs
Insider tip: "Go during the week," Alonso says. "On the weekend, it's picked over."
2100 North Palm Canyon Drive, 760-864-9390

NEW YORK: MONDO CANE

Mid-century modern—the specialty here—encompasses far more than Scandinavaian wood furniture. The store's Venetian, Argentine, and Russian collections guarantee that your home won't look like a spread in a coffee-table book.

Designer: Antony Todd, interior designer of choice for the Wall Street set
Recent purchase: PicasĀso-inspired ceramic lamps for his New York City store
Insider tip: "Ask someone to walk with you and assist you as you browse," Todd says. "And take notes."
174 Duane Street, 212-219-9244

ONLINE: 1STDIBS.COM

eBay's fine for Eames chairs, but if you're in the market for serious collectors' items, this is your site. If there's a rare Paul McCobb desk you're after, odds are you'll find it here.

Designer: Mark Zeff, known for hotel and restaurant interiors like that of the soon-to-reopen Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas
Recent purchase: Forties French rosewood chairs for the library of Vikram Chatwal's yacht-hotel, Fathom
Insider tip: "Browse the price-reduced section," Zeff says, "which often has unexpected pieces—items that have character and history."
