Big Sur's rugged topography inspired generations of artists, like Henry Miller, Jack Kerouac, and the Beach Boys, who sought refuge in its beauty and relative isolation. So it only makes sense that the roughly 90-mile stretch of untamed coast has become fertile fashion ground. The Big Sur aesthetic—a look that is at once laid-back and put-together—is what Jeff Spicoli would wear if he grew up to become a slightly less stoned dot-com millionaire who dedicated his life to environmental philanthropy.
