King Khan and the Shrines, What Is?! [Vice]

Our rating: 3.5 out of a possible 5
3_5

Khan, an Indian expat from Berlin by way of Canada, is an amalgam of Iggy Pop, Sun Ra, and James Brown. On his fourth album—now available in the United States—he mixes psychedelic soul and garage rock to create tracks (like "I Wanna Be a Girl" and "No Regrets") that'll make you want to dance or light something on fire. Either way, Khan approves. Matt Hendrickson

The band performs "Welfare Bread" at Brooklyn's McCarren Park Pool.
