60 Seconds with Kerry Rhodes
Got a minute? Just in time for preseason, New York Jets safety Kerry Rhodes dishes on his pretty-boy quarterback, gives props to Lady Gaga, and tries to earn his team some respect.
Q: How has an Alabama boy like you enjoyed living in New York?
A: New York has given me so many opportunities to set up my career after football, and there's so much you can do here and get involved in. Like, I've got a couple of scripts in my back pocket that I'm looking at, and they actually could be big, big films. I've been doing plays since I was a kid, and I took acting and theater as a minor in college, so acting is something I'm definitely interested in. And I don't have to wait in line at restaurants here. I might get in before you do. I may have a few more high-profile people eating with me.
Q: Is that how you came to play a cop in Lady Gaga's recent "Papparazzi" video?
A: Lady Gaga, she's a cool girl. She's different, and it takes balls to be different. And it was a good opportunity to step into another genre, because it wasn't me being in an R&B or a rap video. I respect her music. The shoot was crazy—there were models pretending to be dead everywhere and big dogs.
Q: Did you feel upstaged by Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez's swimsuit photos in GQ?
A: Yeah, I saw those. Some of the pictures I couldn't have done. But hey, he's secure in his manhood, so good for him.
Q: How do you keep the pounds from piling on in the off-season?
A: For diet, I can't say I just eat fish and salad, because I don't. But I try to watch what I eat as much as I can.
Q: What can we expect from the upcoming season?
A: We have a new coach. We have a great team. People are not expecting a lot from us, and we don't take that with a grain of salt. That's disrespect. And when we are disrespected we want to come out and prove something. So be looking out for me. Big things are going to happen in the next year.
