Should you ever spend $100 (or more) on a cut?
"Barbers can give a very efficient haircut," says Sam Buffa, co-owner of Freemans Sporting Club on Manhattan's Lower East Side, where the price of a pruning is a happy medium: $40. "But if you need something with a little more style, you're going to end up paying more." Stylists who give $100-plus trims are usually informed enough to give you a cut that's as current as your lace-up boots—and will set you apart from all of the other guys in the office with short-backs-and-sides. But scissor skills aren't the only argument for going upscale. You also get amenities like plush robes, scalp massages, and, on occasion, even a slosh of bourbon.
