Buried: A Cinematic Ruse That Works

Buried_blog.jpg

The new thriller Buried opens in a coffin, where an American contractor played by Ryan Reynolds has been entombed by Iraqi terrorists with little more than a cell phone and a dying flashlight. For 97 minutes, this lone scene grips the audience, forcing viewers to hyperventilate along with a desperate man. It's gimmicky, but who knew a shallow grave could make you feel so alive?
