Three Destination Bookstores

These masterfully designed new shops are more boutique, less Barnes & Noble.

OHWOW BOOK CLUB
New York City, oh-wow.com

The Look: The retail arm of the arts collective OHWOW, this shop occupies only 150 square feet, but its interior defines impact: angular shelving units at the perimeter, rows of fluorescent tubes overhead, and a floor that resembles a crossword puzzle, all by designer Rafael de Cárdenas.

The Buy: If You Don't Belong, Don't Be Long (OHWOW; $50), a catalog of Scott Campbell's tattoo-inspired sculptures and paintings.

ASSOULINE
Las Vegas, assouline.com

The Look: Bookended by Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, the company's first freestanding store is located in Crystals, a retail-and-restaurant complex from the powerhouse firms of Daniel Libeskind and David Rockwell. Inside, the custom gold-leaf furniture caters to the zip code too.

The Buy: Cecil Beaton: The Art of the Scrapbook (Assouline; $250), with a dedication scribed by the in-house calligrapher.

TASCHEN
Miami Beach, taschen.com

The Look: Consider this outpost of the German publisher a team effort. Philippe Starck designed the space, and Herzog & de Meuron (of London's Tate Modern) handled the zigzag concrete-and-glass façade. To top it off, British artist Toby Ziegler painted the cosmic floor-to-ceiling murals.

The Buy: The limited-edition Taxi Driver by Steve Schapiro (Taschen; $700), featuring unpublished behind-the-scenes shots from the movie set.
