Perkins, in head-to-toe corduroy, evokes the sophistication of an assistant professor and the debonair charm of a expatriate actor. The year this was taken, 1967, Perkins had recently returned to the U.S. from an extended stint in Europe to star in that year's cinematic thriller The Champagne Murders. He rounds out the look with a chukka dress boot and army-style metal buckle belt.

You can always count on Band of Outsiders for a good corduroy suit. A one-button dinner jacket that looks like the one Perkins is wearing is available here, and you can find the label's two-button suit here. L.L. Bean also offers more affordable corduroy pieces.

Pair the suit with a solid black or navy knit tie, like this one from J. Press.

Alden makes a beautiful chukka boot, available at Blackbird.

This belt from J. Crew has a bold—but not showy—brass buckle.
