The Museum as Art

A billionaire hiring his son-in-law to design a museum sounds like a bad idea, but the art palace Rem Koolhaas disciple Fernando Romero created for telecom mogul Carlos Slim is an architectural marvel. Opening this spring, Mexico City's Museo Soumaya (seen here in a rendering) will house Slim's 66,000-piece collection, but the building itself, with its hourglass shape and aluminum honeycomb facade, may be the greatest artwork of all. soumaya.com.mx
