We're asking top designers to pick one look from their Spring/Summer 2011 collections, and to explain the inspiration behind the item, how it was fabricated, and of course how to wear it. This week, Calvin Klein Collection menswear designer Italo Zucchelli tells the story behind his cropped bomber jacket. This season I started to experiment with shapes more dramatically, and this cropped jacket was one of the most emblematic of that experimentation. I actually showed a different version in which the jacket has a lower half that's zipped on to create a regular bomber later on in the show.

I like this cropped version because it's a new proportion shown in a very uncompromising way. Of course, it's not for everybody—it's a fashion statement. But the nylon material gives it a sporty spring look, and it's versatile enough for a guy to wear with a pair of shorts at the beach or with a pair of skinny jeans.
