Former Fall Out Boy Patrick Stump Releases His First Solo Single

When we last caught up with Patrick Stump, the former Fall Out Boy frontman had shed his glasses, his sideburns, a few pounds, and, most importantly, his bandmates. With the band on an indefinite hiatus, Stump was in the middle of recording his first solo project, an album titled Soul Punk. Though the release date is still TBA (it's expected sometime this summer), Vulture just premiered the album's first single, "Explode." The track is a departure from the emo pop-punk Fall Out Boy was known for and is instead a synth-heavy single with a poppy R&B vibe. Considering Stump's affinity for the deceased King of Pop (remember that Fall Out Boy cover of "Beat It" featuring John Mayer?), it's no surprise that his vocals are reminiscent of Michael Jackson's. Will die-hard Fall Out Boy fans love the track? We can't say. But we wouldn't be surprised to hear "Explode" blasting from club speakers this summer.

Will "Explode" make your summer soundtrack? Let us know in the comments. (via Vulture)
