Seasonal Essential: Freemans Sporting Club Teams up with PF Flyers for Summer Kicks

Oddly, simplicity — in its most positive sense — can be hard to come by. With mountains of overcomplicated, Ed Hardy-ish apparel and footwear available at fire-sale prices, you often have to pay a premium for elegant, quality basics. But sometimes you get lucky. $70 is certainly a fair price to pay for pair of Taghkanics, a saddle-shoe design recalled from venerable brand PF Flyer's 1949 archives by collaborators Freemans Sporting Club. Available in blue, gray, and white, they steer away from the feminine shape of similar offerings by other companies (we're not naming names). At $80, the equally time-tested Mohonk model, below, in natural, grey, or outdoorsy tan, gives all the unstructured style and play of a desert boot, but with a canvas upper that makes it far more preferable in the summer heat. This is the kind of rare, affordable simplicity that can walk you through all the season's deck parties, outdoor concerts, and beach bonfires.

PF Flyers 1949 Freemans Sporting Club Edition, $70 and $80, available at Freemans Sporting Club stores in New York City and San Francisco, American Rag in Los Angeles, Local 35 in Portland, Oregon, at www.revolveclothing.com, and at www.pfflyers.com.
