What's that blasting from the speakers of the minivan next to you at a stoplight? No, it's not Justin Bieber's newest single — it's the latest release from the Kidz Bop franchise: Kidz Bop Sings Monster Ballads (you may remember the original Monster Ballads). Now tots and tweens everywhere can thrill to the glory of 80s and 90s power ballads—sans big hair and acid-wash jeans—with an album sung for kids by kids. Now, we'll admit, some of these songs are a perfect match for the little ones — say, Scorpions' "Wind of Change" or Bad English's "When I See You Smile". Others, however, have us a tad skeeved. Guns N' Roses' "Patience" and Poison's "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" (re-recorded with Bret Michaels on guitar and his daughters Raine and Jorja Michaels on vocals) aren't completely G-rated if you know what we mean. Still, the album offers up the possibility of a music video depicting the trials and tribulations of life on a school bus à la Mötley Crüe's "Home Sweet Home" — and who wouldn't want to see that?
Kidz Bop Sings Monster Ballads is available tomorrow, May 17.
