We asked top designers to pick a look from their collections and to explain the inspiration behind the item, how it was fabricated, and how to wear it. Here, Tommy Hilfiger on his navy and burgundy striped bomber jacket.

"I was inspired by indie music meets preppy boarding school. We put modern twists on classic shapes, focusing on outerwear and tailored fits. Bonded macs, duffle coats, and bombers were updated with regimental stripes, oversize waffle stitching, and lapel pins. This jacket is a perfect example because it takes that indie bomber-style jacket and gives it a narrow silhouette, along with navy and burgundy Pendleton stripes."
