One of the best things about working in fashion is that we get to travel to places like Milan and Paris to view new collections on the runway, and then, a day or two later, we're invited to the designers' showrooms for a "re-see" of the designs. We get to tell the PR peeps what our favorite looks from the show were and pick pieces we want them to order so we can shoot them for the magazine.
Seeing everything up close and personal helps to form stories and ideas in my head, and I love getting to feel the fabrics and see the nuances of the design.
(Editor's note: Be warned that if you are ever given the opportunity to do this, it is not appropriate to scream "OMF'ingG" at the top of your lungs while dashing through the showroom after having a serious shoe moment. Let's just say I learned that from experience.)
And with that, here are 10 of my favorite looks from the Spring/Summer 2012 Bottega Veneta collection, which I viewed in Milan last summer and is finally in stores now.
Blue plaid jacket and pants: Together this print is a lot to take, and only the incredibly hot (i.e., Noah Mills) could get away with the full ensemble. But pairing this plaid jacket with white jeans and a plain black shoe is a cool look for spring.
Black weekend bag: Bottega is known for its woven details, and I love how they're incorporated on this weekender.
Briefcase: I never wanted to carry a briefcase until now. This is MAJOR.
Black perforated wingtip shoes: Sometimes all you need is a fashion shoe to take that jeans-and-tee look to the next level. These wingtips get the job done.
Bright blue suit: Oh hi, Brad Goreski.
White motorcycle jacket: To quote Molly Ringwald in Pretty in Pink, "It's hot. White hot."
Ties: I love all the subtle prints and patterns on these ties because they aren't so crazy as to take me out of my comfort zone, but they still give off a fashion-tie vibe.
Grayish-blue printed plaid suit: I would pair this printed suit with a crisp white shirt and penny loafers, hold the socks.
Sunglasses: The tortoise ones are sick!
Sweater: Pattern on pattern in a chunky V-neck.
