The Truth About Sugar and Skin

Okay, so it may not seem like a huge scientific revelation, but if you've been paying even a little bit of attention to the news lately, you've heard about Dr. Robert Lustig and his findings on sugar (hint: it's bad for you).

If you're still not convinced, see this viral YouTube video, this New York Times article, and this 60 Minutes report from last weekend. Added sugar is a likely culprit in heart disease and cancer, but if that doesn't scare you, maybe we can appeal to your vanity—it can worsen acne too. Studies have found that people who consume foods with a high glycemic index (which raise your glucose levels and cause you to release insulin) get more zits than people who don't. So if you're looking to clear up your face without shelling out any dough, that's easy—just put down the Oreos.
