Full disclosure: Michael Bastian has been making a version of this military trouser—aka, cargo pants with one pocket—since the beginning of time (give or take). In fact, I own a khaki moleskin version from several seasons ago that has become a permanent fixture in my winter wardrobe—truly, they are an almost weekly wear.
So, when I was doing a bit of shopping last weekend and stumbled upon this navy cotton version for spring/summer '12, it wasn't difficult to convince myself it was time to invest in an update. Here's why: they're one incredibly versatile pair of pants. Great on the weekend with a pair of sneakers and an M-65 Vietnam-style military field jacket, they can also pull double-duty at the office with a pair of loafers, an oxford, and an unstructured jacket.
