It would probably take you three shots of whiskey to walk out of the house wearing electric purple—but experts say the royal shade may heal alcohol addiction and even promote better sleep. Color therapy, or the belief that certain hues can change you for the better, is the psycho-remedy du jour, and hotels are cashing in on the craze.
At New York City's brand-new Pod 39 hotel, guests can choose a room in one of three color schemes: "rev up with red," "heal with teal," or "soothe with blue." Sure, scheme might be the operative word, but there's no denying that lounging at a rainbow-inspired resort feels pretty damn good. Here, five of the most radiant on the planet.
Semiramis Hotel
Location: Athens, Greece
Details: Curvaceous forms and lollipop colors offer the
weary business traveler an energetic kick. Stay in a pool bungalow and
enjoy a private terrace and garden, or splurge for a penthouse studio
and look over the Attica region while soaking in a hot tub.
Papaya Playa
Hotel
Location: Tulum, Mexico
Details:
Cabanas at this eco-conscious resort sit atop a rocky ledge and
stretch along the Caribbean coast. Rooms feature pops of lime
green—much like the jungle paradise that sits outside the back
door. Visit the So Happy Spa for a coconut-and-honey scrub or an Aztec
massage and stop at the raw-food bar for a snack before your afternoon
nap.
Pantone
Hotel
Location: Brussels, Belgium
Details:
Photographic installations from the Belgian photographer Victor Levy
line the walls, and rooms are decorated in distinctive color palettes so
guests can pick one to fit—or flip—their vibe. (Color
consultants are on-call should you feel the need to talk trends.)
Wanderlust
Hotel
Location: Singapore
Details: Four
distinct design agencies were given creative freedom to decorate each of
the hotel's floors, resulting in a mishmash of industrial and modern
themes. Ask to stay on the floor with lighting systems that enable
guests to "paint" their room a certain color (as pictured at top of page).
Hotel Missoni
Location: Edinburgh,
Scotland
Details: Creative director Rosita Missoni (one
of the original founders of the Missoni label) designed the interiors
with bold splashes of color and geometric patterns. Swing by the
multihued Bar Missoni (above) for a taste of the popular
prosecco they keep on tap.
