Prime-Time Emmys: The U.K.'s Brightest Stars Invade U.S. TV

Hugh Laurie and Ricky Gervais aren't the only supertalented Brits to win over U.S. TV audiences. At this year's Emmys, the U.K.'s finest were in full effect—Homeland's Damian Lewis took home the lead actor prize and Maggie Smith of Downton Abbey grabbed the honors for supporting actress. And the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) threw a pre-show party that brought out a slew of TV stars who've ditched the motherland for 100-plus-degree L.A. heat. Here are our pics from various Emmy events.

English actor Martin Freeman, who plays Dr. Watson in Sherlock, will also star as Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's upcoming The Hobbit (pictured above).

Nominated for lead actress award (she lost to Claire Danes) for her role on Downton Abbey as Lady Mary Crawley, Michelle Dockery looks prim.

Downton Abbey's Brendan Coyle (nominated for Best Supporting Actor) soaks up the sun with friends. He's clearly light years away from his character of starchy valet John Bates.
