In this series, Details fashion director Matthew Marden identifies egregious trends in men's fashion. This week, he's got a beef with your boots.
Some country trends easily translate to use in the city: a waxed-cotton jacket, a tweed suit, a Fair Isle sweater, for example. But I draw the line at rubber rain boots. When the forecast threatens rain, you see women all over town sporting this look. Unfortunately, many men have decided this is a cool look and adopted it as well. If you are one of them, I beg you to just stop. There is nothing right about tucking your skinny jeans (don't even get me started on those) into a pair of rubber rain boots. It looks forced, affected, and, frankly, effeminate.
The only place I can imagine wearing Wellies is if you're trekking across a foggy English moor, not 42nd Street and Broadway.
