Don't let the name fool you. The Tux, a new iPad app from the folks at Mr Porter, is no mere guide to formalwear. It is, instead, a remarkably smart guide to all things after-dark.
Sure, a fair amount of the content is fashion-focused. But there are some pretty fantastic twists; a requisite lesson on tying a bow tie is amusingly transformed into an interactive stop-action feature. A film-noir short features Michael Kenneth Williams from The Wire (see video below).
The non-fashion features are the real treat, though: There's a guide to meeting ladies featuring a Warhol-like take on some very tight shots of Daisy Lowe's lips doling out winning pick-up lines, and a cocktail section includes an interactive mixology lesson in which you can virtually add ingredients to a shaker—add pineapple juice, for example, and the whole fruit drops in on the scene. And you can't beat the price.
