New Store Alert: Raleigh in NYC

In 2008, the husband-and-wife designer duo Victor and Sarah Lytvinenko began a line of jeans in an area that was once synonymous with American denim: Raleigh, North Carolina. Four years later, after a few successful orders from Barney's New York, Raleigh (formerly Raleigh Denim) has opened its first New York City store.

Located in the Nolita neighborhood, the 900-square-foot store was conceived in collaboration with the architecture firm OMA, the same company that designed Prada's Broadway flagship shop. Here, a movable steel wireframe serves as both a winding partition and a grid to hang, mount, and display the label's collection and namesake jeans. Clusters of cardboard airplanes adorn the ceiling and corners of the room.

Hemming and fitting take place on sight in the store's dressing parlor. A prominently displayed vintage sewing machine—a trademark feature of the Lytvinenkos—reinforces the notion that detail and tradition make for an excellent pair of jeans.
