Pop-up Alert: Alexander Olch Pairs Neckties With Matching Cocktails

Like a rock star being asked to play the hits, men's-accessories designer Alexander Olch was fielding so many requests for ties and pocket rounds from his past collection that he decided to appease the masses and open his first bricks-and-mortar location right around the corner from his office on New York City's Lower East Side. Though major retailers like Barneys and Bergdorf Goodman have stocked Olch's goods for years, he's never had a shop of his own until now. Open through March, the pop-up serves as a showcase for some of the most covetable neckties in the city, seen around the necks of John Hamm, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Waris Ahluwalia.

Consider the pop-up something of a Greatest Hits album, with the best pieces from Olch's entire collection. "It's great to have a space where we can display all of our history," says Lena Jung, production and wholesale coordinator at Alexander Olch. The shop itself sits in what used to be the Nor'East Clam Shack, the former take-out arm of Grey Lady, the seafood restaurant next door. Olch, who knows the owners, decided it was the perfect spot for his first, albeit temporary, physical storefront, where you'll find smart, one-of-a-kind men's accessories that are as versatile as they are well made. Need something for your next business meeting? A handmade gray necktie woven from superfine English wool should do nicely. On the quirkier side are the pocket rounds, a circular take on the classic pocket square that you fold "into kind of a flower," says Jung as she demonstrates the technique.

The Grey Lady is staying involved by matching a cocktail to a different accessory every day. As always, be careful when mixing alcohol and shopping: The merchandise is so alluring you might leave with more ties than you know what to do with, like the $900 gift set, which includes a necktie, suspenders, a pocket round, a bow tie, and a notebook, all packed in a polished wooden box.
