He sported the tousled, "day-after" coif as the free-spirited, rebellious Dean Moriarty in On the Road. We sat down with Los Angeles hair stylist Russ Hart of redT Salon and asked him how he would replicate Hedlund's morning-after look.
First you'll need the right haircut, so ask your barber for a lived-in, pompadour-style cut. Hair should be about three to four inches on top and one-and-a-half inches on the sides.
To style, apply a dime-size amount of crème to wet hair (try Lock Stock and Barrel's Pucka Grooming Crème, which has medium hold and a very natural sheen). Use your fingers to run the product through strands in the desired direction and blow-dry at a low heat until hair is three-quarters dry. Then rub a quarter-size amount of the crème between palms to warm it and rake fingers through hair to create piecey texture. Repeat with the blow-dryer to add more volume.
Tip: To add volume, clench your hair in your fist and pull it in a backward motion while rotating your wrist. But let's be honest: The hairline makes or breaks this look for most men.
