The Week in Fashion: Obama's Daring Inauguration Style Choice, White Collar Gear, and a New Scent from Y-3

The day's top five stories in fashion news.

At yesterday's inauguration, Michelle Obama put menswear maven Thom Browne's women's wear on the map with an exquisitely tailored coat made of the same jacquard he uses for his men's ties. Barack finished off his ensemble with shoes by Cole Haannot the American-made Allen Edmonds that every President since Reagan has donned to his swearing in (much to the sartorial chagrin of many in the nation's capital who keep tabs on such things). Industry insiders and the street-style bloggers who love them gathered at the Hudson Hotel last night to kick off Project New York, a semiannual tradeshow for all things #menswear. The show runs through Wednesday in New York City and continues in Las Vegas next month. (Project)

Before catching their flights out of Paris, the fashion set partied it up on the final night of men's fashion week at the legendary Théâtre Saint Germain to celebrate Y-3's inaugural fragrance. The co-branded fashion line from Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas (called Black Label) debuted a sporty, Japanese avant-garde scent that blends the best of both worlds. (WWD)

Today on, men's clothing company Alton Lane and actor Matt Bomer will launch a special collection of ties, pocket squares, and shirts inspired by the White Collar character, Neal Caffrey. And with the final string of episodes also starting tonight, you can order your Caffrey-inspired sundries for the ultimate dude dress-up party. (WWD)

After the last glass of celebratory champagne was poured, menswear fanatics left Paris feeling relieved; it was a solid, exciting week at the shows. From Saint Laurents' boho rock-and-roll runway (pictured above) to Miharayasuhiro's chinoiserie-meets-street-wear—whatever your taste, the Paris shows have us drooling for Fall 2013. (
