Samsung Vacuum Tube Soundbar: Turn-of-the-Century Tech Gets an Upgrade

Though "vacuum tube technology" might sound like something out of a science-fiction movie, the audio system has actually been around since the early 20th century, when it revolutionized listening devices like phones, radios, and eventually home-stereo equipment. Now Samsung has capitalized on its rich, warm tone and cult following with the Vacuum Tube Soundbar, the world's first soundbar with a built-in vacuum tube that can wirelessly connect to your TV via Bluetooth.

This "SoundShare" feature means no more ugly cords running down the wall from your perfectly hung flat screen. The same technology can also connect your cell phone, tablet, or computer, so you can stream seamlessly from Spotify or iTunes.

The Soundbar is also equipped with a gyroscope that identifies its exact location, so you can mount it anywhere on a wall without distorting the audio quality. It's not short on oomph, either, with a powerful wireless subwoofer that makes the most out of heavy bass and action-movie explosions.

Price and release date TBA.
