When it comes to presenting new menswear collections, Band of Outsiders tends not to go the traditional runway route and opts for an edgier approach instead. This season the label is serving up their signature concoction of performance, social commentary, and style with their Spring 2014 menswear presentation, live-streaming from the Chateau Marmont's Rm. 29 this Sunday, June 23rd.
Designed to convey the lifestyle of a touring musician, the collection will be presented by a cast of characters, including The Producer, The Hotel Manager, and The Musician, who will ascend through ten stages, beginning with nostalgia and vanity and ending with meltdown and socialization. The Musician, who can't leave the room, will be directed to change looks by The Staff via the room's telephone and hand-written messages.
So who landed the role of The Musician? None other than real-life freak-folk musician, Devendra Banhart. Past presentations from Band of Outsiders include a male model scavenger hunt through Manhattan (Fall/Winter '13) and "The Longest Show Ever," in which a model sat in a Paris gallery window for 36 hours straight (Spring/Summer '13).
