Go Backstage at Public School's Spring 2014 New York Fashion Week Presentation

True to their previous four presentations (since their 2012 relaunch), Public School's founders and designers Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne are committed to casting models with a "strong look." They're "not so pretty...They have a little more hard-edge and are more real," says Chow.

The collection itself revolves around uniform-inspired dressing Chow describes as "clean and elevated" with plenty of the brand's signature street references and black-and-white palette. As with previous collections, you'll see an array of foundational white T-shirts and button-ups (eight different styles of button-ups in all), but the major departure here, according to Chow, is in the broader range of fabrics. In particular, cotton, viscose, nylon, and elastane blends allow for higher performance and greater movement in pieces designed for a sportier, more active consumer.

So what's next for the designers? Though Chow says they're not taking any time off, especially since the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund contest is in full swing (Public School is one of 10 finalists—winner to be announced on November 11, 2013) and they're busy working on their pre-collection, he did confess to mixing up their black, white, and (gasp) sometimes navy and olive color range with "something in the red family" some day soon. And ladies, Chow and Osborne haven't forgotten about you—but don't hold your breath. While a womenswear line is on their radar, it's still in the distant future.

Here, photographer Liam Goslett takes us behind the scenes of Public School's Spring 2014 presentation. Catch a glimpse of some of the key looks as well as an insider's view of how it all comes together for New York Fashion Week.
