Ciclotte: The Stationary Bike That Doubles as Sculpture

Abandoning all but the essentials (pedals, handlebars, flywheel), this stationary cycle is a work of art made for your living room.

Italian designer Luca Schieppati has deconstructed and streamlined the traditional stationary bike to achieve the Ciclotte (based on his unicycle-like road bike called the Ciclò, now in the permanent collection at Milan's Triennale Design Museum). Made from steel and carbon fiber, the sculpture-like machine features a specialized automotive-grade transmission—a copper ring rotates at high speed in front of six magnets—that generates a concentrated level of resistance to mimic the smooth ride of the open road.
