The contest seemed simple: Write anything you like about travel and you could win a rather big prize (roundtrip flight and hotel accommodations for two to Dublin, Ireland). But open-ended challenges present problems: Where to start when there's no focus? After assessing all the posts published by the members of the Details Network (this contest was open only to our international community of style bloggers), we found a bevy of original approaches:
• It's a Blog! tackled "7 Reasons You Should Visit Seville Now."
• A Collected Gentleman offered up "5 Essentials To Travel Well."
• Fruitpunch wrote an homage to his favorite city, Florence, starring the author in an original street-style photoshoot.
But the winner of the contest—the most original post with the most engaging writing and photography—came from Jason Wilson at Urbasm. His post, "A Eurotrip of Style" melded travel with men's style by discussing one designer from each of six Western European cities. Thus, he was able to flit from the U.K. to Spain to France to Italy to Germany to Sweden while covering Gieves & Hawkes, Zara, Dior Homme, Emporio Armani, Hugo Boss, and Acne Studios. Smart approach, clean execution. It garnered the most reader votes and impressed our editor judges. Now Jason's going to Dublin, where he can visit as many local designers as he likes in person.
Check out the Details Network for more contests and, of course, to soak in the daily deluge of style-obsessed posts from our community of contributors.
