Who took home the gold for best-groomed actor of the year? Here we highlight some of our favorite looks of the night—including the scene-stealing hair that will go down in red-carpet history.
Now that the New York Times' Sunday Styles has started acknowledging beards, it's only a few months until they're patently uncool. The guys on the red carpet can still get a lot of mileage out of that facial hair, though—and while several had goatees and varying levels of scruff, Jason Sudeikis and Bradley Cooper get our vote for best beards. They're trimmed and shaped without looking fussy, and help emphasize the jawline (the not-so-secret benefit of whiskers). Most importantly, they did not pull a Joaquin Phoenix.
High and Tight
One of the best looks from Oscars was a tight fade on the sides with a bit more length on top. It made guys like Brad Pitt and Ethan Hawke look ten years younger (especially Ethan, who's been looking a bit craggy lately). Plus, shorter sides can have a slimming effect on your face—Jonah Hill looked really polished in this cut, too.
Leo DiCaprio and Chris Hemsworth channeled Old Hollywood with a simple, slicked-back shape and finished the look with enough product to help them shine in the spotlight. It didn't hurt that they both stepped out with golden tans, either.
Show-Stopper: Jared Leto
Following his debut of the man-bun earlier this year, all eyes were on Jared Leto's hair. His stylist, Chase Kusero, opted to let Leto's hair down, and while flowing ombré waves aren't for everyone, they make for a pretty majestic mane in this case. It was also a wise move to leave a bit of scruff—a clean shave may have been a little too androgynous.
