- Detroit may be the birthplace of rock n' roll, but it's also the hometown of John Varvatos, who discussed his earliest influence—Iggy Pop and the Stooges—at the 92nd Street Y this week. - This Friday, Urban Outfitters is opening its humongous new store—sorry, we mean Space Ninety 8—on North 6th Street in Williamsburg. Apparently, the store will stock a mix of local goods (think skincare by S.W. Basics and surfboards from Salt Surf) as well as local foodstuffs. - These days, whatever Matthew McConaughey touches turns to solid gold, including his movie props. The cowboy hat he sported in Dallas Buyers Club fetched nearly $13,000 at auction.
