This Week in Fashion: Ralph Lauren Says He's The Real Batman, The Designer Of Zac Efron's MTV Movie Awards Shirt

Plus, Kid Cudi's controversial crop top, Kering bets on sportswear, and more.

The week's top stories in fashion news.

  • Ralph Lauren is an undisputed merchant prince. In a recent interview, the designer dished about his toy car collection, his fascination with Jack Sparrow, and why he's the real Batman. As he told Bridget Foley, "I've been Batman for a long time, so people give me Batman gifts." (WWD)

  • Gucci owner Kering may be scooping up more sports and lifestyle brands in the future. Why? Because in a couple decades, sport-obsessed young people will have a lot of buying power, says CEO Francois-Henri Pinault. "When you look at the next 20, 30 years in terms of economic development of the world, the key markets are young people very much attracted by brands, very much aware of the health issues, attracted by sports." For now, any new acquisitions are on hold until Kering's primary sports brand, Puma, is back on track. (Business of Fashion)

  • At Coachella last weekend, Alexander Wang announced that he would be the next designer to be assimilated into the machine collaborate with H&M. Hitting stores November 6, the collection will include men's and women's ready-to-wear as well as "lifestyle" accessories. (Forbes)

  • Speaking of Coachella, if you went last weekend, you did not get the full experience without a glimpse of Kid Cudi's navel. The bright red crop top Kid Cudi rocked during his performance sparked instant Twitter controversy, but we think a lot of it has to do with ab envy. (MTV)

  • In a related story, the most significant fashion happening at the MTV Music Awards wasn't a red carpet moment. When Zac Efron accepted his award for Best Shirtless Performance (yes, that's a thing), Rita Ora tore his tight chambray Neil Barrett shirt clean off his glistening, spray-tanned body. (Buzzfeed)
