We Want It: Tsovet JPT-TS44 Quartz Chronograph

Influenced by his research into WWII tactical equipment, specifically Russian dive watches, as well as a general love of vintage military details like "industrial gauges, finely knurled dial knobs, indicator arms, and balanced fasteners," Tsovet's founder David Bonaventura marries the company's laid-back California roots with the rigor of precision-made timepieces. Those two forces are clearly at play in the brand's latest release, the JPT-TS44 Quartz Chronograph, which launches at Barney's on April 12 (and can also be purchased online).

The brand is a major step up from the rock-inspired Vestal Watch company that Bonaventura founded in 1997. He's come a long way since his 2004 interview with the Times, in which he bragged that "style over function is somewhat of our motto."

Tsovet, on the other hand, is designed to appeal to an entirely different market, one that appreciates the full year it takes for craftsmen to make each timepiece. And given all that goes into each product, the watches are surprisingly affordable. We like the matte stainless steel model shown here, which retails for $400.
