In our new series Runway Recall, we revisit some of the greatest moments and best looks from memorable men's fashion shows. In this edition, we're looking back at the police-lineup-themed show Maison Martin Margiela put on for fall 2009.
Imagine what it might have looked like if the poster for The Usual Suspects had been styled by someone very cool and very European, and you'd be pretty close to envisioning Maison Martin Margiela's fall 2009 show. Each of the models in the show walked out in front of a wall painted like a police lineup, and all of them carried those little black identification cards that newly processed prisoners have to hold in their photographs.
But on the style front, no one committed any crimes. The classic clothes had interesting little twists here and there, like a rain jacket with faux water droplets on the shoulders, or a shirt with a pre-applied red-wine stain.
