If the classic polo shirt is a little too twee for your taste, Smith & Smith has one that's a lot tougher. The New York-based design duo have mashed up the preppy staple with the classic T-shirt, and the result is too good to pass up.
This shirt manages to look like a polo with embroidery that mimics the appearance of a collar and placket. Far from gimmicky, the trompe l'oeil effect is modern, minimal, and super accessible—it's a 2D version of wearing your polo shirt buttoned all the way up. It's composed of a modal/polyester mix, making it a perfect wardrobe staple as we enter summer.
If you're hooked already, check out the rest of Smith & Smith's latest collection here. Their offering of T-shirts, sweatshirts, and longline shorts is just as understated and elegant as this piece.
The polo is available in white and marine blue for $150 at Dover Street Market in New York.
