Well Suited: How are You Celebrating National Seersucker Day?

This is just your Congressional representation trying to find a way to keep cool.

If, by chance, you have to get on the phone with your congressional representative today, and you notice that he or she sounds happier than usual, it might have something to do with their clothes.

Wednesday marks the long-awaited return of National Seersucker Day, when members of both parties on the hill wear puckered cotton in an effort to beat the heat while still looking professional.

The tradition, which was started by former Mississippi Senator Trent Lott in the '90s, was discontinued in 2012 because neither body of government wanted to look frivolous during wide-ranging debates about healthcare reform, immigration, or the economy. But it's back this year—just in time for the nattiest of our friends on Capitol Hill to don pieces from that Brooks Brothers collaboration with Supreme, or the easy variant seen above, created by New Orleans-based brand Haspel. Either way, if anyone starts sweating while they're arguing on the House floor, they won't be able to blame it on what they're wearing.
