5 Drugstore Grooming Products With Surprisingly Luxurious Roots

You don't need to spend a fortune to look like a million bucks.

The difference between knowing when to save and when to splurge often takes a little bit of research. So after scouring drugstore shelves, we found five grooming knock outs that give their higher-priced counterparts a serious run for their money.

Shave
Dove Men + Care Exfoliating Pre-Shave Scrub: This luxe scrub is noteworthy for what it doesn't include. Unlike other options that incorporate fragments of nut shells or seeds whose ragged edges can actually damage the skin, this formula features large, soft, spherical beads. They gently polish the skin, help dislodge gunk from pores, and lift even the coarsest whiskers away from the face for a super-smooth shave.

Face
L'Oreal Paris Men's Expert Vita Lift Anti-Wrinkle & Firming Moisturizer: Retinol is widely recognized by skincare experts as one of the most effective anti-aging ingredients available. However, it can also make skin peel and render faces red. This comprehensive moisturizer features a retinol derivative that's gentler on skin, but still delivers wrinkle-fighting and skin-brightening properties like its pricier competition.

Body
Brut Blue Wave Deodorant: Most drugstore deodorants are overpowering, smell cheap, and fade fast. But Brut's newest scent in almost a decade marries warm spices with hesperidic notes—that's fancy terminology for citrus—for an effect that's masculine but not overpowering, just like the original Brut scent. In addition, the product won't stain your clothes or leave a sticky residue on your skin.

Hair
AXE Matte Effect Reworkable Clay: One of this product's star ingredients, kaolin clay, has been widely used in other, far more expensive alternatives. It's rich in silica, strengthens strands, absorbs excess oil, and imparts a natural, matte finish. It also washes out easily, preventing nasty product build up.

Fragrance
James Bond 007 Ocean Royale Eau de Toilette: Renowned perfumer and professional nose Will Andrews (he's the guy responsible for some of Hugo Boss's fragrances) capitalized on the big trend of earthy, wood-based smell, but lightened things up by introducing crisp notes of bergamot and lime. The resulting scent is equally rich and refreshing, making it a sophisticated option for summer's sweltering temps. The bright, cobalt glass bottle makes a striking addition to any medicine cabinet.
