Giorgio Armani turns 80 today, but the elder statesman of Italian fashion is just as spry and active as men half his age.
That's probably because he's not afraid to get away from the office every now and then. In March, Armani told us "I am a practical man, and I'm not frightened by work or difficulties—I never dream of running away. Of course, there are times when I have to regenerate, and this is when I dream of going on holidays to the seaside."
Maybe those regular getaways are part of what's kept him focused and creative during his five decades in the fashion business. But he also says that when the time comes, he's ready to retire.
"I can assure you that everything is set up and that my team will take over at the right time," he said. "In recent years, I have surrounded myself with capable people who I have trained and developed with an eye to the future."
