Best Celebrity Instagrams of the Week: Tim Howard, Zachary Quinto, and 10 others

In this edition: Dr. Dre gets promotional, Peter Som gets patriotic, and Katy Perry snaps a selfie with V.P. Joe Biden.

Every week we dive into the pool of celebrity Instagram posts to see what our favorite actors, artists, writers, musicians, DJs, designers, and notorious selfie-takers are posting. Below are recent shots that captured our attention—because they're funny, telling, timely, or all of the above.

1. LeBron James

None other than LeBron James called this shot: "Flat out greatest draft moment ever!!!" He was referring to NBA commissioner Adam Silver's ceremonial first-round pick of Isaiah Austin, the sophomore center from Baylor who was recently diagnosed with a rare genetic heart disorder that cut his playing career tragically short.

2. Leslie Mann

In case you didn't know: Leslie Mann and Judd Apatow are like a two-headed monster rampaging through dated stereotypes of Hollywood power couples. Here they wear a raunchy Lena Dunham T-shirt print.

3. Tim Howard

"Successfully navigated the Group of Death with spirit, togetherness and fight, the only way we know how, record-breaking U.S. goalie Tim Howard wrote after his team made it into the last 16 of the World Cup despite a 1-0 loss to the Germans. "Onto the next one now! Enjoy the ride," Howard added. (Of course, that ride came to a screeching halt on Tuesday when Belgium won the match 2-1 in extra time.)

4. Dr. Dre

Who needs Variety or the Hollywood Reporter when you have a Twitter account? Dre upstaged the industry rags by tweeting the first promo picture for Straight Outta Compton, the forthcoming biopic of West Coast gangsta-rap icons N.W.A. OGs Dre and Ice Cube—flanking director F. Gary Gray—back up the actors who will play their younger selves along with the late Eazy-E. Adding nepotism to nostalgia: The cast includes Ice Cube's real-life son, O'Shea Jackson Jr., who will portray his proud papa on the big screen.

5. Peter Som

Designer Peter Som displays his true colors in preparation for celebrating Fourth of July festivities with close friends in Provincetown. "All decked out and ready for #July4," he wrote. Could red, white, and blue be the new black? You'll have to wait for Som's fall collection to find out.

6. Katy Perry

While President Obama focuses on fixing healthcare and immigration reform, among other crises, our V.P. (not to be confused with MVP) is busy hobnobbing with the likes of Julia Louis-Dreyfrus and, most recently, Katy Perry. "He made me call my 93-year-old grandma to thank her for my baby blue eyes!" reports the pop star. "What a Q-T." Time to stop flirting and get back to work, Joe!

7. Mert Alas

Ubiquitous fashion photographer Mert Alas—of Mert & Marcus fame—snapped this candid pic of bathing beauties Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. They were all enjoying some R&R on the Spanish island of Ibiza, the destination of choice for the gay jet-set (and the supermodels who love them).

8. Zachary Quinto

"The police are staging in front of the oldest gay [bar] in the [West] Village," out-and-proud actor Zachary Quinto noted of the heavy NYPD presence on Gay Pride Day in Manhattan.

9. Diplo

Leave it to twerker-obsessed DJ Diplo to stumble across these NSFW sand castles on the beach in Rio the day of a Major Lazer show. (Note the authentic thongs on these big-bootied figures.) Perhaps not surprisingly, 28,900 followers "liked" this photo—the pervy turntablist certainly knows his fanbase, we'll give him that.

10. Hamish Robertson

"Remembering my dad who, amongst many other things, once made a unicorn," recalled L.A.-based artist and designer Hamish Robertson. Can you imagine how much Mariah Carey would fork over for this taxidermied treasure? Why, it's the perfect conversation piece to go with her Hello Kitty-themed bathroom and Marilyn Monroe's piano.

11. Josh Ostrovsky

When he's not posing shirtless in his Chelsea neighborhood or pouring rosé down the front of his tux at the Cannes Film Festival, 30-year-old New York comic Josh Ostrovsky—better known to his half-a-million Instagram followers by the handle "The Fat Jewish"—shares his wisdom and witticisms in the form of photo captions such as this commentary on Generation EDM.

12. Andrew Kuo

Artist Andrew Kuo's feed consists mainly of stupid pet tricks involving cats, dogs and assorted fowl. But once in awhile he focuses his eye on human targets such as this motorcyclist's photorealist helmet (complete with ear canal, stubble and sideburns), which gives new meaning to the phrase "hat head."
