Every week we dive into the pool of celebrity Instagram posts to see what our favorite actors, artists, writers, musicians, DJs, designers, and notorious selfie-takers are posting. Below are recent shots that captured our attention—because they're funny, telling, timely, or all of the above.
1. Robin Williams
The final Instagram update from Robin Williams was a touching ode to his daughter on the occasion of her 25th birthday. "#TBT and happy birthday to Ms. Zelda Rae Williams!" wrote the late actor. "Quarter of a century old today but always my baby girl." Needless to say, Robin will always be one of our comedy heroes.
2. Nick Knight
Along with homages to Williams, shots of the Super Moon were trending heavily on Instagram this week. One of the best came courtesy of Nick Knight, who has been an in-demand fashion photographer since the eighties. After all, he has decades of experience shooting other heavenly bodies.
3. Jeremy Renner
[Editor's note: This comes from a Renner fan account.] "Well . . . I finally joined social media," lamented makeup artist-turned-superhero Jeremy Renner (AKA Hawkeye from The Avengers). "Need a drink. Warming up for my first post," he added, followed appropriately by hashtag "whore."
4. Joe Manganiello
Joe Manganiello of True Blood (and director of the new documentary about male strippers aptly titled La Bare) has a joke for you: "A werewolf, a giant, and a terminator walk into a bar . . . ." This photo of him flanked by the WWE's Big Show—the "world's largest athlete pound-for-pound"—and Arnold Schwarzenegger is the visual punchline.
6. Jason Derulo
You know you've made it big when . . . you're immortalized as a Sim? Jason Derulo recorded this "Simlish" language version of his hit "Don't Wanna Go Home" for the Sims 3 soundtrack. Which leads me to believe that I have seen the future of music . . . and it's a video game.
7. Jason Wu
Designer Jason Wu wished model Karlie Kloss happy birthday by posting this pic of her puckering up at 2011's CFDA Awards. But it's the look on the designer's face that says it all. Well, this is one way to get Anna Wintour's attention.
8. Sam Smith
"Fresh cut from my hair doctor," wrote singer-songwriter Sam Smith, showing off his stylish new 'do. Once you make it big as a singer, barbers just don't cut it anymore, evidently.
9. Nicola Formichetti
The self-described "90's club kid" turned creative director of Diesel shared this pic of from his summer vacation in Bali. "Beautiful Ubud," he wrote, referring to this rice field in the Indonesian island's cultural center. According to his Instagram account, Formichetti's holiday also included visits to the monkey forest, an elephant safari, the butterfly park and, of course, a shopping spree. There is no vacation from fashion.
10. Shun Watanabe
Formichetti's traveling companion, stylist Shun Watanabe, is rocking a Bali-inspired edgy look and don't be surprised if it's all over the runways come Spring Fashion Week. He calls it: "Real butterfly mask," adding that it's very "McQueenish." You heard it here first: Butterflies are the new black.
11. Chris Benz
Designer Chris Benz is a master at mixing high and low, so it's no surprise that this thrifty 79-cent special caught his eye at the local bodega. His unsuspecting dinner guests might be surprised to find themselves feasting on artificially flavored albeit tasty soup. Probably just tastes like chicken.
