We Want It: Ernest Alexander's Limited-Edition Leather Jacket

A luxury take on the classic bomber style, with only 25 made.

Forget sweater weather, fall is about leather. While a plethora of new fall styles roll out this month, among them is Ernest Alexander's first leather-jacket style that debuted back in February during his fall 2014 presentation—a collection that was loosely based on the early days of motor-track racing of the 1930s and 1940s, designer Ernest Sabine tells us.

"The Balfour is our reinterpretation of a classic bomber-style jacket that references the man of that time but is elevated by great craftsmanship and subtle touches of luxury," he says of the Italian-leather olive-green-bodied piece with a lamb-shearling collar. Other features include stitched elbow seams with light inner cushioning and curved, tall front pockets. Sabine, who this summer became an official member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, adds that the brand strives to create pieces that guys will "feel confident and not flashy" in—which holds true for the limited-edition Balfour style in its use of rich calfskin leather and upscale detailing.

Available for pre-order at $1,195, it's a pricey style investment, but with ownership comes the knowledge that you've acquired one of only 25 existence. "There's something very special about producing items in limited quantities that men seem to appreciate," Sabine says of his decision. "It allows us to create pieces that are truly unique and utilize fabrics and materials that we may otherwise not be able to use. Having a piece that is limited-edition allows our customer feel even more included in our brand, the process, and the purpose, which is the most important thing for us as a company."
