This Week in Fashion: Michael Bastian Designs a Smartwatch While Fendi Builds Condos in Miami

Talk about form meeting function.

The week's top stories in fashion news.

  • Watch out, Apple. This fall, designer Michael Bastian will present his answer to the current vogue for wearable technology: a smartwatch created with HP and Gilt. While the name (the Michael Bastian Smartwatch) isn't super imaginative, the timepiece will give you the weather forecast, stock updates, calendar reminders, and notify you about emails and text messages. The only thing better than the three interchangeable wristbands it comes with is that it's compatible with both Android and iOS devices. (WWD)

  • Speaking of watches, Miansai has added two styles to its existing lineup of wrist wear: the M12, and the M24. The M12 features a Ronda movement and three hands (hour, minute, second, per usual), while the M24 has a Japanese quartz movement and only one hand. Wearers gauge what time it is by examining the position of the hand between hour marks. Which can be fun if you don't have to be anywhere precisely at, say, 12:45. (Miansai)

  • Nordstrom announced this week that it bought the men's personal shopping service Trunk Club, because the retailer understands that lots of guys can't be bothered to traipse in and out of stores all day. If you're a Trunk Club fanatic already and you're afraid big, corporate department store ownership will destroy everything, fret not. Nordstrom has vowed that for now, the two companies will grow separately. (Fashionista)

  • Fendi's latest project has nothing to do with wearables. The iconic Italian fashion house is partnering with the Chateau Group to build a 12-story waterfront condo building in Miami, which set to open in June 2016. The finished product will house 58 dwellings, along with a private restaurant, library, business center, ballroom, private movie theater and state-of-the-art gym. Units will go for between $5 million and $22 million. (Complex)

  • With the start of his annual OVO Festival on Sunday in Toronto, Drake has set up a pop-up store. As of yet, no one really knows what sort of gear will be on sale, but perhaps the musician's strong relationship with Calvin Klein will manifest in a retail opportunity. (Hot New Hip Hop)

  • And finally, the newest high-low collaboration to drop is the latest iteration of Missoni for Converse. The two brands have been creating capsule collections for several seasons now, and this one, which features three of the Italian brand's zig zag patterns in varying colors, will be available on Monday, Aug. 4.
