This Week in Fashion: How to Stay on Top of NYFW, Bill Cunningham's Enduring Wisdom

It's all happening. Are you keeping up?

The week's top stories in fashion news.

  • If you're not going to be in the thick of it for New York Fashion Week, you're in luck. The very good people at The New York Times have set up a live blog that will capture all the most exciting moments from the collections. If you missed images of the Jonas brothers Richard Chai's show or the interesting grooming look at Bespoken, you should head there now. (The New York Times)

  • For the next month, Selfridges will devote some serious real estate to designer Rick Owens—and we do mean serious. There's a 25-foot-tall statue of him in front of the store that's carrying a torch scheduled to burn for 12 hours a day, four windows dedicated to his merchandise, and a ground-floor space filled with a special capsule collection and other products inspired by the partnership. • "Simple clothes are the key," said noted street style photographer Bill Cunningham when Fern Mallis asked him about the future of fashion on stage at 92nd Street Y this week. "Look at the lines waiting to get into the Apple store on Fifth Avenue. Do you see a line waiting to get into Bergdorf's or Saks?" (The Fashion Spot)

  • Perhaps the verve for simple clothes explains how the team at Frank & Oak, the direct-to-consumer, online only menswear brand, raised $15 million to further finance their growing business. It'll make their third New York Fashion Week presentation, scheduled for Sept. 7, that much more important. (Fashionista)

  • But for all the celebrating the industry does during Fashion Week, it started off on a sad note. On Labor Day we learned of the saddening death of Yves Carcelle, who'd been the CEO of Louis Vuitton from 1990 to 2012, after a long battle with kidney cancer. He was 66. (WWD)
