January 11, 2007: Beckham agrees to a five-year deal, worth approximately $250 million, with the MLS’s Los Angeles Galaxy. The deal includes roughly $10 million a year in salary plus a significant share of the team’s ticket and merchandise sales.

January 12, 2007: Beckham explains his motives for moving to the U.S.: “I’m coming there to make a difference. I’m coming there to play. . . I’m not saying me coming over to the States is going to make soccer the biggest sport in America. . . But I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t think I could make a difference.”

January 21, 2007: The U.K.’s Sun reports that Fox is courting the Beckhams for a U.S. reality show tentatively titled Living With the Beckhams that would follow the couple during their first months in the States.
