Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers didn't so much burst onto the TV landscape as torch it to the ground, leaving nothing remaining in a firestorm of martial arts, merchandise, and media controversy. Bear with us: Five "teenagers with attitude"—isn't that just the most nineties thing you've ever heard?—are recruited by the hyperintelligent, screen-faced wizard Zordon to do battle against evil space witch Rita Repulsa by donning pleather bodysuits and piloting robotic animals that join forces to become a massive robot. Most of the ensuing violence and low-budget effects came in scenes ripped from a Japanese game show and dubbed in English; the rest featured young, unknown American actors who rotated in and out over the franchise's many iterations (Power Rangers: Dino Thunder, represent). That first cast, though, truly catapulted the show to instant recognition, providing faces to model action figures after and to blame for corrupting our hyperactive youth with their "kung-fu"—and television hasn't been the same since.
