Rarely has the making of an icon been documented as exhaustively as in the new book David Bowie: Any Day Now (Adelita, $45). It's a chronology of Bowie's first 27 years, complete with news clippings, set lists, posters of his early bands (when he called himself Davie Jones), and, best of all, endless snapshots that reveal his transformation from gawky adolescent to glam superstar.
