The New Punta del Este: A Hub of the Laid-Back Elite
In the state of Bahia, this beach town has a rustic fishing-village vibe but is crowded with well-heeled fashion elites during holidays. The Quadrado, or town square, is lined with restaurants, bars, and glamorous hotels. Capim Santo is one of the square's oldest eateries, and tucked among the mangroves is Uxua Beach Bar, opened by former Diesel creative director Wilbert Das, who also built the Uxua Casa Hotel. The highlight: a pool made of native Bahian aventurine quartz, which is reputed to have therapeutic qualities.
