Must-See Show: Photographer Alex Prager's "Face in the Crowd"

10 dramatic images from the artist's Hitchcockian lens on the eve of her latest exhibition.

No matter how many Instagram accounts you follow, you'll never see images quite like those by artist Alex Prager. She combines the meticulous attention to detail and calculated color palette of someone like Wes Anderson with the highly romantic style of the Mad Men era.

Now Prager is set to stun us with her latest exhibition, "Face in the Crowd", the artist's most ambitious project yet in terms of scale. Clicking through these scenes of mass gatherings—from the beach to the city street—along with cinematically posed women and close-ups of dramatically lit, fear-stricken eyeballs, is enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. If Friday afternoons at JFK seem scary to you now, wait till you see them through her sky-high, tilted Hitchcockian lens.

"Face in the Crowd" opens at Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C., on November 23 and runs until March 9, 2014, with showings in New York City (Lehmann Maupin in January 2014) and Los Angeles (M+B in January 2014) to follow. To get a sense of what's in store, Details offers this preview of 10 works from "Face in the Crowd".
