What to See at the 2014 Armory Show

The 10 must-visit galleries at New York City's leading art fair.

A seminal event in the cultural calendar, The Armory Show (March 6–9) is one of New York City's—and for that matter, the world's—leading fairs for modern and contemporary art. Now in its 16th edition, the event, located at Piers 92 and 94 on Manhattan's West Side, will host over 200 galleries from 29 countries, as well as a special section dedicated to contemporary art from China entitled "Armory Focus: China." As in years past, 2014 promises a range of genres and media to suit the personal tastes and habits of any collector, from the most seasoned art connoisseur to the next-generation collector.

If you're in the market for a new Picasso (or perhaps the next Picasso) to hang over the mantel, arrive early. Pieces tend to sell quickly and are sometimes snapped up before the show even opens during the March 5 private preview. Everything will remain on view, though, so even if you're not snapping up Warhols, LaChapelles, or Banksys, you can still enjoy the exhibitions and perhaps start planning which modern masters you hope to add to your own museum-caliber collection someday.

Here, Jamie Knowles, founder and creative director of online art destination and e-commerce site FolioCue, gives his picks on what to see and advice on how to navigate the renowned art fair alongside industry insiders.
